It's Past Time For Smart Gun Violence Prevention
Over the weekend, another mass shooting took place in Texas - this time in Midland-Odessa. While some lawmakers in the Texas legislature would seek to make this moment about more prayer and reflection, we know that lives are on the line. We know common sense gun policies can save lives. Not yet a full month since the shooting in El Paso and Texans are again faced with tragedy and senseless loss.
What You Can Do:
From Texas Gun Sense - Contact Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Lt Governor Dan Patrick, and Texas Speaker of the House Dennis Bonnen, as well as your elected representatives, and give them the message that Texans deserve smart gun violence prevention policies now! #DoSomething.
“Texas needs action now to stop gun violence in our communities. Smart gun reform will protect Texans while also respecting the rights of responsible gun owners. In particular, an Extreme Risk Protection Order law and a universal background check law will save lives every day in Texas.”
Some top priorities:
Enact an Extreme Risk Protection Order law (“red flag” law). Extreme risk protection laws create a mechanism for families and law enforcement to temporarily prevent access to guns by individuals who pose an elevated risk of endangering themselves or others.
Enact universal background checks. Unlicensed gun sellers are exempt from having to perform any background check before selling a firearm. Exceptions can be crafted for gifts to family members, transfers for hunting, target shooting, and self-defense.

From Everytown For Gun Safety - Demand that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and our U.S. Senators pass background checks and a strong Red Flag law that will help prevent gun violence tragedies.
We have to be loud and continue to be loud on what we want because Texans are dying at the hands of mass shooters and it must end.
Call, write, show up.
