Down But Not Out - Keep Speaking Out Against #SB9

This morning I showed up to the Capitol to do my job and register on behalf of Texas Progressive Action Network against SB 9 - a damaging bill that hurts Texas voters.

What I discovered when I got there while the hearing was in progress though was that registration for this bill was closed just 30 minutes into the hearing.  What does that mean?
It means that countless Texans who showed up today to be heard on this terrible voting bill have been locked out of the process, their mics turned off essentially.

This is not standard practice.  But standard practice was not granted to us today it seems, on the day that a controversial and wildly unpopular voter suppression bill is being heard.

Read more about this morning's shenanigans and how this is a prime example of what happens when voter suppression succeeds HERE...

Even as it seems that the committee chair for House Elections will not reopen the bill for witness registration (despite a barrage of calls, including ours, to do so!), we can still speak out against this bad bill for Texas!  Use the League of Women Voters of TX tool and send a ready to go letter to your elected officials TODAY!

One voice silenced in this fight to defend Texas voting rights is one voice too many.  Call upon your state representative to #StopSB9 from ever becoming law!

Yours in the fight,
Valerie Street
