Paid Sick Days, Election Protection, Public Safety + More

We're entering the final month of the regular legislative session tomorrow so there's a lot to pack into this action alert and all items are time sensitive.

Take a look below:

ACTION for 5/1/2019:

  • Help us speak out against SB 2485, SB 2486, SB 2487 and SB 2488. All of these bills are SB 15, just broken into 4 pieces of legislation. They hurt local government's ability to meet the needs of workers in their communities. Center for Public Policy Priorities has an informative handout on this attack on local democracy HERE.
TAKE ACTION --> These bills are now in the House and scheduled for a hearing tomorrow, May 1st.
    1) Get to the hearing if you can and register against all of them.
    2) Using the League of Women Voters of TX letter tool, send a message to lawmakers to oppose these bills and to speak up for Texas working families!

  • SB 2353 has been placed on the intent calendar and we urge you to contact your senator and voice support for this bill! With many voting systems and equipment in Texas now 15+ years old, this bill establishes a "Voting System Fund" that helps counties provide updated voting equipment. This bill has the support of various counties in Texas, good government groups and many voters!
TAKE ACTION --> Fire off a quick message now and tell your Senator to support SB 2353

  • Support HB 316 - a bill relating to a public awareness campaign on firearm safety and suicide prevention that can save lives. It's being held up in committee and we need your voice to urge members to vote it on through.
TAKE ACTION --> Send a message with Texas Gun Sense and urge committee members to move on HB 316!
