Bills Are Moving + Upcoming Event!

There are a few bills we need to be watching as they move through the legislative process.
Take a look below:

  • Critical action with Everytown for Gun Safety -> HB 3231 - Texas cities, towns and counties are trying to enact safety measures to curb gun violence in their communities but HB 3231 is yet another bill targeting local government this session. We know the value of approaching smart gun policy from a local level and bills like HB 3231 obstruct local, common sense measures on this issue. Contact your state rep and urge them to vote NO. Must happen TODAY - this is an "as soon as possible" action alert.

  • Coming up for a vote this week -> HB 3009 - Join Civics 4 Y'all's letter writing effort to support HB 3009.  Support high quality civics education for our students and future leaders of Texas! This vote could come up today or Tuesday so don't wait!

  • For reasons (see below), we need to stay on our Senators and urge them to #holdtheline when it comes to standing firm against David Whitley for Secretary of State. Take time with the League of Women Voter's Action Alert to 1) thank them for their vote on SB 9, to protect voters (see our letter we sent the Texas House last week) and 2) urge them to reject Whitley's confirmation for Texas Secretary of State. Yes, the voter purge has been rescinded! No, that's not enough! Texas voters deserve a Secretary of State who doesn't jeopardize voters this way, PERIOD. Make sure your Senator knows so.

**Last Monday we submitted a letter to members of the Texas House calling on that body to reject legislation that punishes Texas voters and to stop SB 9 from becoming law --->Open Letter To Texas House: Reject SB 9

** Don't miss the FREE screening of Rigged: The Voter Suppression Playbook this Thursday, May 2nd here in Austin! Visit HERE for event details and RSVP!
